Kyivans refusal to pay for communal services will spread all over Ukraine - ATCU

03.08.2009

Example of the Kyivans who refuse to pay for communal services because of frankly not reasonably inflated prices with the same quality of services, will spread all over Ukraine, - said the head of the Association of Thermotechnical Companies of UkraineVitalyYakovenko.

In particular, he noted that ATCU warned about such turn, when the total charges for services will be much less than before the raise, but did not expect that there will be such a big difference when only 24% Kievans payed. Before the tariff raise the population paid about 186 million UAH, and after - only 73 million, while city authorities expected to earn about 360 million.

According to the head of ATCU, the political component of this boycott is insignificant.«The lion's share of their dissatisfaction is caused by the mismatch between price and quality of services provided, as well as the lack of alternative suppliers of these services and the inconsistency in the calculation of housing services», - said Mr Yakovenko. But he stressed that in regions with increasing tariffs on the population will have a slightly different motivation from Kyivans' one. «Basis of discontent in the regions will lie in the field of heating and hot water. It is these areas in the regions of most concern, and that there is not any change for the better. Modernization of centralized systems is not happening, they are destroyed, are becoming increasingly dangerous and uncertain, but authorities continue to impose on people to these services and disable them to solve for themselves the problems of heating and hot water systems with alternative», - said Vitaly Yakovenko.
